Formatting a memory card on a Mac for use in digital cameras, other Macs or even PCs is done using the Disk Utility application that comes as part of the operating system. Insert the USB plug from a memory reader into a USB port on your Mac. Here's how to format a new flash drive (Thumb Drive/USB Stick) on a Mac for both PC and MAC. Can i run it mac. I use the exfat format so you can go between the two of them.

You did not need to reformat the drive. You could have selected all the files, and dragged them to the Trash. Even erasing could have been done without altering the format.
So, what's next? If you want to drive to be readable by both systems select the Manufacturer ID or the drive, go the Partition menu and select the disk format you want. (You are creating a single partition volume). Then click partition.

Good luck.
