I have gone to Adobe's website: https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/ and tried to update Adobe Reader DC while following all the instructions on the adobe.com help menu. I go through all the steps listed on the help menu, and at the end of the installation, adobe.com says that the installation was successful. Here is the link to the FF page where I check my plugins: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/?utm_source=firefox-browser&utm_medium=firefox-browser&utm_campaign=plugincheck-update .On Adobe's website I noticed that my exact operating system 10.8.5 is not included in the drop down menu, so I chose Mac OS Intel 10.8. I'm unsure if Adobe Reader's update failure is due to adobe.com's lack of an update for Mac OS Intel 10.8.5.
